Notes Define "Broadcast Journalism"

Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
It would mean that you have to televise or air instantly. Then journalism would be the reporting of current events or what is happening in the news.



List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1. Unusualness - news is the different, the unusual, the out of the ordinary. Why is the news always bad? Unusual is more often found in bad news.

2. Significance - Important events, ones that affect many people, are news. *Taxes *Election *Wars, Things that are significant in peoples lives.

3. Timeliness - Old news isn't news: its history. People want to here about the flood while its happening not a month later.

4. Proximity - People want to know about nearby events, local school gang activity

5. Prominence - When well known people, buildings, or places are involved, thats news. If Zac Efron is arrested, that's news

6. Human Interest - stories about ordinary people or animals, humorous or dramatic. Heartwarming or heart-wrenching stories. These often appear in news because they have human interest.
